This accessibility statement applies to ebooks.africanbookscollective.com
This website is run by African Books Collective. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

    • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
    • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
    • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
My Computer My Way has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

    Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

    Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

    Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

    • The carousel on the welcome page includes images of text without alternatives. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A).
    • There are various heading related issues across pages including multiple h1s, pages with no heading structure and non-sequential headings. Various control elements, lists, and some table contents are not used for their correct relational purposes. Account changes do not identify which fields are required fields. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).
    • Across many pages on the website, links are only differentiated from surrounding text by colour alone. This fails WCAG 1.4.1 Use of Color (A).
    • The online reader view introduces a number of readability and clipping problems at higher magnifications. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).
    • Several tab components such as on the title pages are not keyboard accessible. The ratings controls are not keyboard accessible. Many controls within the online reader view are not keyboard accessible. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A).
    • The carousel on the welcome page does not have controls to pause or stop the auto scrolling. This fails WCAG 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide (A).
    • The cookie banner is presented as the last element on the page which may block or slow progress for users needing to move fully through a page to make cookie selections. This fails WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order (A).
    • There are a few instances of focus indication issues, where some control elements do not receive focus. Where many text elements do receive focus, they may be clipped by the focus boundary. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA).
    • When using account controls such as changing passwords, or on other actions such as saving titles to new lists, there are no audio cues that there has been an error. For saving titles to lists, there are also no visible cues. This fails WCAG 3.3.1 Error Identification (A).

If you find an issue that we have yet to identify, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.
